John Marchington Altman Sr.

John Marchington Altman, Sr., 70, of Chester, VA passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2019. Born in Hopewell, VA he was the son of the late Walter Moore Altman, Jr. and Virginia Marchington Altman; and a sister, Betsy Wood. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Cindy Altman; a son, March Altman and wife, Stephanie; a daughter, Natalie Sharp and husband, Chris; Cindy’s children, Tracie Cheely and Adam Woolridge and wife, Linnea; ten grandchildren, Claudia, Trey, Ross and Scarlett Altman, Nadia Sharp, Morgan Holloway, Jordan Cheely, and Maddie, Gemma and Kelly Woolridge; a great-grandson, Rhett Holloway; one brother, Walter M. “Butch” Altman, III and wife, Susan; and numerous family members, nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Historic Hopewell Foundation in memory of John Altman.
