John Richard Bailey, III also known as “John John”, passed away at his residence September 27, 2018. John, a native of Petersburg, Va. Was the first born child of retired, SFC John Richard Bailey, Jr. “Bongo” and Rev. Judy Powell Bailey. John was preceded in death by loving paternal and maternal grandparents, John Richard Bailey, Sr. and Eunice King Bailey, Junius Andrew Powell and Margaret Avant Powell; an uncle, Clyde Edward Bailey, Sr. Esq.; an aunt, Velma Bailey Miller; a dear first cousin, Monica Hines Goode; his former wife and mother of his only child, Pamela Jones Bailey. John was a loving, kind and compassionate man. He had a “Heart of Gold” and would always be willing to help his family or friends in need. John was baptized at an early age and served in several Christian ministries during the years he resided in Maryland. John spent his formative years as a military child. His family traveled and lived in Germany and several other places with his Dad, a member of the USA Army Band. John graduated from Petersburg High School (Class of 1982). Like his father, John was a gifted percussionist. He received many honors in high school for his musical talent. John played in the Petersburg High School Marching Band and Concert Band. He was a musician with the Petersburg Symphony and had several bands throughout his young adult years. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland, College Park. John served his country in the U.S. Army and received an Honorable discharge. John leaves a family who cherishes his memory to include his son, John Richard Bailey IV, “John Richard” or “Buddy B”; a devoted mother, Rev. Judy Powell Bailey; a loving Dad and Step Mom, SFC John Richard Bailey, Jr. , USA Army Retired (Brenda); a beloved sister, Marcia Bailey Woods (Darryl); step sister Wendy Allen Hardy (Robert); three endearing nephews, Brennen Marshall, Collin Andrew and Bailey Anthony Woods; four devoted aunts, Margaret Powell Garnes (Sylvester), Rose Powell Rolling (Harold), Jacquelyn Bailey Kidd, Dr. Jean Bailey; several cousins, Lane Rolling, Jr., Ronald Moorefield Jr., Michael Moorefield, Pamela Hines, Kaia Miller Kruta, C. Eddie Bailey Jr., Nikisha Edmonds Goode. John also leaves long time close friend Donnie (Rob) Pankey, among other relatives and friends. All funeral services will be private.
