John Joseph Bell, 91, of Colonial Heights died Friday, December 1, 2006. He was born in Monesson, PA the son of the late Ivan and Mary Belichick. Mr. Bell was a graduate of Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA and he went on to earn his Masters Degree from The Ohio State University and completed Post-graduate work at several other Universities. He spent the majority of his life in Beaver Falls where he raised his family before moving to Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Bell worked as an Area Development Manager for Columbia Gas Systemâ??s distribution companies in Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He then moved to York, PA and worked 10 years as the Executive Director of YCID Corporation and Secretary of YCID Authority. Mr. Bell was well known for his intelligence and abilities and during his retirement dinner in 1982 he was recognized by the Governor of Pennsylvania for his many accomplishments, during his tenure he was instrumental in creating 23,100 jobs and completing 511 projects totaling $349 million. He was also a veteran of the U.S Army serving in World War II and Korea and member of American Legion #284. Mr. Bell was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife Katherine Z. Bell; a daughter Kathee Bell Collett and husband Terry of Colonial Heights; a son James J. Bell and wife Antoinette of PA; a granddaughter Marikaye Pond and husband Lindsey of Chester; great-grandsons John and James Pond; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Anna Yurchich, Frank and Joe Belichick all of Youngstown, OH and Stephen Belichick of Annapolis, MD. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service today from 2:30 to 4 PM. A graveside funeral will be held on Monday, December 4th at 1PM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Colonial Heights Fire & EMS or the AMVETS.
