John Edward Blankenship, 82, a lifelong resident of Chester, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2005. He was the son of the late Edward Eugene and Carrie Hawkins Blankenship. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII and was wounded at St. Lo, two weeks after landing on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France. John was a member of Chester United Methodist Church and was a longtime employee of the Chesterfield Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. He is survived by sister, Charlotte Ruffin and husband, George; niece, Beverly Buccola and husband, Allan; great-niece, Celeste Buccola; great-nephew, Allan Buccola and wife, Jaimee; nephew, George Ruffin and wife, Trisha and their children, Jessica, Justin, and Hunter. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday, December 9, at the Chesterfield Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 AM Saturday, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
