John Marshall Cabaniss Sr.

September 13, 1923 — December 20, 2012

John Marshall Cabaniss, Sr., 89, of Petersburg, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012. Born in Dinwiddie, Virginia, he was the son of the late John and Cora Cabaniss. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of over 60 years, Margaret Rowland Cabaniss; and three sisters, Mabel Simmons, Thelma Dance, and Virginia Ridout. John was a proud member of Western Heights Baptist Church in Petersburg. He is survived by his son John Cabaniss, Jr. and his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Darlene Wehren and her husband, Fred, and Linda Esquibel; ten grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. The family expresses special thanks to Heartland Hospice and Always Best Care Senior Services for their support in caring for Mr. Cabaniss in his final days. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 12:00 PM Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Entombment to follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund, make checks payable to The American Red Cross (Note Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund), 204 North Main Street, Hopewell, Virginia 23860.
