John Shelton Coleman

John Shelton “Shacky” Coleman, affectionately known as Poppa, 80, of Dinwiddie passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2020. Born January 21, 1940, he was the son of the late Leonard P. and Gertie B. Coleman, and was also preceded in death by his baby brother, Robert Coleman; and sister, Lillian Coleman. Whether it was mowing the yard or tending to his garden, John loved spending time outdoors. He treasured spending time and sharing laughs with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Martha G. Coleman; children, David A. Coleman, Karen C. Bishop and husband, Donald, Michael W. Coleman and wife, Faye; six grandchildren, Brittney, Preston, Justin, Kendall, Michael, David, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Wilder, Emma; brothers, Roy Coleman, James Coleman; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members. A celebration of life service will held from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at the Gerow Ruritan Club, 6501 Duncan Road, Petersburg, VA 23803.
