John Hibbard Conover Jr.

John Hibbard Conover, Jr., 91, of Hopewell, VA, died Sunday, May 5, 2019. A native of Lima, IL, he was the son of the late John Hibbard and Clara Smith Conover. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Alice Conover Talbott. Mr. Conover was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired Clerk with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hopewell and a former member of the Hopewell Optimist Club. His hobbies included woodcrafts, and repairing Volkswagens and bicycles. He participated in craft shows for eight years, and at one time, owned a bicycle repair shop and a VW repair shop. He enjoyed listening to country music and used to play guitar. He and Louise loved traveling to Florida in their RV, where they would spend the winter months. Mr. Conover is survived by his wife of 70 years, Louise Minor Conover; daughter, Carolyn Conover Foxworth (Dennis) of Hopewell; sons, John Kenneth Conover (Lynda) of Scaly Mountain, NC, and Thomas Paul Conover (Leona) of Las Vegas, NV; granddaughters, Janel Foxworth English (Chris) and Megan Foxworth Andrewski (Stan); step-grandsons, Tommy Meadows (Melody) and Brian Meadows (Angela), as well as five great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home followed by interment at Appomattox Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 636, Hopewell, VA 23860.
