John Dudley Davies, 84, of Petersburg, died Monday, May 17, 2010. Mr. Davies was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia to the late J.P. and Bonnie Swiger Davies. Mr. Davies was a United States Army Veteran, having served in World War II, as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, and earned a Purple Heart. He graduated from West Virginia University, School of Mines, where he was a member of Phi Kappi Psi. In 1985, John retired as President of Commonwealth Natural Gas Corp. He was a member of Christ and Grace Episcopal Church, where he served on the Vestry. He was a past president of the Rotary and Sergeant at Arms for many years in Petersburg. He also served on the Petersburg Hospital Authority.. John is survived by his loving wife, Polly E. Davies; two daughters, Marsha Calhoun and husband, Clinton, Paula Smith and husband, David; and a grandson, John Clinton Calhoun. A memorial service will be held at 2:00p.m. on Saturday May 22, 2010 at Christ and Grace Episcopal Church, 1545 S. Sycamore Street, Petersburg, VA 23803, with The Reverend David Teschner officiating. A private inurnment will be held in Blandford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to McGuire VAMC Palliative Care Unit, 1201 Broad Rock Road, Richmond, Va. 23249. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
