John M. Davis Jr.

John Maurice Davis, Jr., 86, of S. Chesterfield, passed away on August 9, 2013. He was the son of the late John M. Davis, Sr. and Emma Brooks Davis; and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret D. Leahman and Dale D. Grimmer. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 15 years of service, and had also worked in the insurance business before that for over 30 years. He was a former member of Elm Street Baptist Church, and was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #882 for over 50 years. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and his two cats, Spunk and Dixie. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara F. Davis; four nieces, five nephews; special cousin by marriage, Gerald Lundie; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Ivan Perkinson, officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
