John Ellwood

John Douglas Finn Ellwood, 69, of Prince George, passed away Monday, December 05, 2011 after a courageous battle against cancer. He was born September 14, 1942. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo â??Buckâ? Ellwood and survived by his mother Delia Galpin of Florida. John graduated from Prince George High School, retired as a Captain in the United States Air Force, and was retired from Philip Morris. John was a devoted scout master and enjoyed his work with the scouts. He was a member at Crowder Memorial Baptist Church. He loved fishing, working in his garden, yard and his workshop. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, brother, and grandfather. John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda Bailey Ellwood; daughter, Lisa Ellwood Byerly and her husband, Lee; granddaughter, Rachel Mary Byerly; his son, Brian Ellwood and his wife, Michelle; sisters, Pat Lake of Alabama, Joan Merritt of Georgia, and Pamela Earl of Florida; father-in-law, James Bailey; in addition; in-laws, Donna and Dwight Wheeler, Rachel and Boyd Griggs, James and Tammie Bailey; numerous nieces, nephews, great nephews, and great nieces. A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Friday, December 9, 2011 at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 â?? 8:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Crowder Memorial Baptist Church building fund.
