John Martin Gore Sr., of San Antonio, TX, passed away on May 17, 2016 after a long illness. Mr. Gore was born and raised in Alexandria , VA and lived for many years in Petersburg, VA before moving to San Antonio in 1995. He retired from a career in teaching in both the Petersburg and Colonial Heights school systems. He was a long-time, active member of Walnut Baptist Church, and for many years an adult volunteer for Boy Scout Troop 180, both in Petersburg. He spent his retirement traveling the world, he loved camping and backpacking, ran long-distance races before it was fashionable, and cheered mightily for the San Antonio Spurs. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Scott Gore, of San Antonio, along with her two sons and their families; his son, John Martin Gore, Jr. and wife, Kimberly Rice Gore, of Amelia, VA; and three grandchildren, Lindsey Jean of Dinwiddie, Emily Brittain of Charlottesville, and John Curtis of Amelia; his daughter, Sally Ann Gore and her wife, Lynn Simmons, of Worcester, MA; his sister, Margaret Lee Sykes and her husband, Jesse Williams Sykes, of Falls Church, VA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Brittain Gore, of Petersburg; his brother James Andrew Gore, Jr. of Atlanta; and his parents, James Andrew Gore, Sr. and Mary Puryear Gore, of Alexandria. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday May 24, 2016 at 12:30 pm at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Rd. South Prince George, VA 23805. The family is being served by J.T.
