John Meredith Hamm

John Meredith Hamm, 59, of Ettrick, VA passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. Born in Petersburg, VA, on November 27, 1957, he was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Edward and Doris Pond Hamm; uncles, John A. Simmons, William W. Hawkins, and William F. Hamm; aunt, Rebecca H. Jones; and brother-in-law, Col (R) John E. Dawley, Jr. Johnny enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Duke University fan. He is survived by his sister, Jenny H. Dawley; brother, James L. Hamm; nephews, John E. “Jay” Dawley, III., and Jeffrey J. Dawley and his wife, Katherine; great-niece, Evelyn C. Dawley; aunts, June P. Simmons and Mary H. Hawkins; and numerous cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at Colonial Heights Health Care Center for the excellent care rendered to Johnny for the past three years. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
