John James McGuire, Jr.,84, of Hopewell, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at his residence. Mr. McGuire was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, raised in Fredericksburg, VA, and moved to Hopewell in 1949. He was a retired preventive maintenance manager with 34 years of service with Hercules, Inc. Mr. McGuire was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy with service on the USS Ludlow and the USS Yorktown. He was an active member of First Christian Church, Hopewell, having served as an Elder, Deacon and Trustee. Mr. McGuire was past president of the Hopewell Kiwanis Club during 1988-89. He was preceded in death by his parents, John James, Sr. and Grace Crawford McGuire. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Newton McGuire; two sons, James Donald McGuire of Hopewell, and Robert Dale McGuire and wife, Jo King, of St. Simons Island, GA; three grandchildren, Ann McGuire Lerch and husband, David Todd, of Savannah, GA, Will H. McGuire of Greenville, SC, and Scott A.. McGuire of Atlanta, GA; and a brother, Donald H. McGuire of Boca Raton, FL.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 5, 2007 from 7 â?? 8:30 p.m. at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 6, 2007, at 11 a.m. in Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell, with Bob Lane, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating.
