John Christopher “J.C.” Kollman, Jr., 90, of Colonial Heights, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 after a period of declining health. Born May 23, 1924, he was the son of the late John Christopher Kollman, Sr. and Dora Van Kollman. Mr. Kollman was also preceded in death by two sisters, Clarine Scott and Foris Winfield; one brother, William Rudolph Kollman; one daughter, Debra Olingher; and beloved grandson, Patrick Holleman. Mr. Kollman is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Wilson Kollman; three children, J. Christopher Kollman, III, and wife, Elaine, Nancy K. Holleman and husband, Jack Weatherford, and William (Bill) Kollman and wife, Carol; eight grandchildren, Kristie Belvin, Stephanie Underwood, J. Christopher Kollman, IV., Amy N. Vassas, Julie E. Connolly, Margo Kollman, Bill Kollman, and Katie Kollman; and twelve great-grandchildren. Mr. Kollman was a graduate of Petersburg High School and a Veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy from April 30, 1943 to January 4, 1946. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, Mr. Kollman became a sales and service representative for Bouroughs Corporation for 30 years. Mr. Kollman was a lifetime member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where he was very active serving as a deacon and on many other committes. He was also a long time member of the Woodpecker Lodge Community Grange and the South Chesterfield Ruritan Club. Being a very avid hunter, he was a member of the Avery’s Mill Hunt Club. From July 1, 1968 to June 30, 1976, Mr. Kollman was proudly elected to the Colonial Heights City Council where he served as Vice-Mayor and Mayor. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm to 3:30pm on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. A funeral service will follow at 3:30pm. Interment will be private. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church in Colonial Heights or Crater Community Hospice.
