John Samuel "J S." Major Iv

John Samuel “J.S.” Major, IV, 64, a native of Dinwiddie, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late John Samuel Major, III and Elizabeth Askew Major. He was preceded in death by aunt, Margaret Major Chambers; and uncle, Richard E. Chambers. In his youth he enjoyed riding horses and training his bird dogs. J.S. was a member of Crawford United Methodist Church. He was the proud owner and operator of Dinwiddie Super Market until his retirement. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Civil War enthusiast. J.S. enjoyed spending time in his garden and woodworking. He is survived by numerous cousins and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dinwiddie Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 100, Dinwiddie, VA 23841 or to the Pamplin Historical Park, 6125 Boydton Plank Rd., Petersburg, VA 23803. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
