John Robert (Bobby) Morgan, 77, died peacefully at his home on January 10, 2021 following a prolonged battle with liver cancer.
Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, Bobby graduated from Hopewell High School and then completed an apprenticeship program at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth. He worked as a machinist for Brown and Williamson Tobacco in Petersburg and retired from Honeywell in 2018 after 32 years with the company.
From his parents’ loving example, Bobby had a strong work ethic, a love for learning, generous nature and unwavering values. He was a proud Catholic and life-long member of St. Joseph’s Church in Petersburg. Bobby loved his wife Jean, Chevrolet Corvettes, the Washington Redskins, a cold Budweiser beer, well-done steaks, butter brickle ice cream, and his extended family in the Morgan, Nussear, Pantalone, and DeLauder families.
Bobby was funny and adventurous with a broad smile and quick wit. He never met a stranger or shied away from a good debate and he never met an automobile that he couldn’t fix. Bobby was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend, bestowing many gifts to those fortunate enough to be a part of his life.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Rita Jane DeLauder and Robert Mason Morgan Jr.; sister, Mary Louise Morris; nephew, Martin Robert Dunn; niece, Diana DeLauder Morgan; and stepdaughter, Lisa Watkins Faber. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Hamner Morgan; brother, Edward Mason Morgan and his daughter Ashley; daughters, Rita Morgan Stocks (Sam), Mary Anne Casey; stepson, Michael Turner Watkins (Joyce); nephew, Thomas Edward Diogenes Dunn; grandchildren, Benjamin Thomas Casey, Morgan Aedin Casey, Samuel Mason Stocks, Berkley Noland Stocks, Katherine Ward Stocks, Melissa Ann Love Kimmel (Mark), and Timothy David Love (Erica).
