John Franklin Perkins, 92, departed this life Friday, March 30, 2007. He was born Feb. 3, 1915 in Petersburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Buena Vista Royal Perkins; wife, Lou Bell Traylor Perkins; brother, James Clyde Perkins and sisters, Mary Beale and Elise Perkins. John worked and after 43 years retired from B&W Tobacco Co, served 16 years on the Board of Directors of B&W Credit Union, 21 years as recording secretary for International Association of Machinist and served 3 years in the United States Navy aboard the Henry A. Wiley. He was a member of Highland United Methodist Church, United Methodist Menâ??s Chorus, Menâ??s Friendship Bible Class, American Legion Post #284, and was a volunteer firefighter for the City of Petersburg. He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Perkins Barker; granddaughter, Lisa Paige Barker; nephew, James Clyde Perkins; niece, Elaine Perkins Ruxton and a loving companion, Catherine Mayes. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son on Monday, April 2, 2007 from 6 to 8 pm. A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 3rd in Blandford Cemetery at 1:00 pm. Contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of Massey Cancer Center, P.O.
