John Edgar Seavy

October 10, 1925 — May 24, 2018

John Edgar Seavy (Jack), retired Hercules plant manager, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 24, 2018. He was born in Warren, Pennsylvania on October 10, 1925 to George and Elizabeth Seavy. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Nancy Seavy, publicist and marketing manager for the Ritz Theater in Oaklyn, NJ, one of the founders of the James River Ball, and former Hopewell High School teacher. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Judd Seavy, Ross Seavy, and Robert Seavy. Jack is survived by his children Pam Taylor (Ray) of Richmond, VA, Betty Trout (Dave) of Murrysville, PA, and Dr. George Seavy of Harleysville, PA., and grandchildren Allison Kittleson (Eric) and Lauren Taylor, Carley and Jeff Trout, Olivia and Everett Seavy. He is survived by sisters-in-law Fran Seavy of Alliance, OH and Jane Johnson of Greensboro, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack grew up in Clarendon, PA, graduated from Warren County High School in 1943, and earned a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Penn State in 1946. While there, he was senior class president, member of Lion’s Paw, Parmi Nous, and Alpha Chi Sigma. Jack embarked on a 37 year career with Hercules, Inc, in Wilmington, DE, that included 30 years in Hopewell, Virginia, with additional assignments in the Netherlands, Finland, Paris, Glens Falls, NY, and Burlington/Gibbstown, NJ. He retired in 1984 as plant manager in New Jersey. He lived in Medford, NJ until 2008, when he moved back to Hopewell, VA. During his years in Hopewell, he was an active member in the First United Methodist Church, serving as treasurer and on the finance committee. He was a charter member of the Jordan Point Country Club, past president of the Hopewell Kiwanis club, and one of the founders of the Happy Acres Foundation, which built and operated a day camp for disabled children in Prince George, VA. Jack was an avid fisherman, gardener, bridge player and tennis player. He was also a history buff and accomplished genealogist. He was a 72 year member of the American Chemical Society. The family will receive friends at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T.Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Friday June 1, 2018 from 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11 am in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chris Andress officiating. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens in Charlottesville, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Hopewell, VA. In lieu of flowers, please vote republican.
