John Arthur Shackelford

John Arthur Shackelford, 77, of Chester, VA passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019. Born in Richmond, VA he was the son of the late John Whitfield and Ida Halloway Shackelford; and was also preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Padgett. Mr. Shackelford enjoyed many decades of sobriety and spent many dedicated hours volunteering with the Alcoholics Anonymous program. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Condrey; a niece, Elizabeth Keenan and husband, Larry; two nephews, Mark Condrey and wife, Janet and Barry Condrey and wife, Debra; and five great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Graveside service to follow at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of John Shackelford.
