John Felix Shornak

June 19, 1927 — February 25, 2018

John Felix Shornak, 90, of Hopewell, VA passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018. Born in Hopewell, VA he was the son of the late August Joseph and Pearl Jeanette Martin Shornak; and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard Long and Raymond Shornak; and two sisters, Nettie Phelps and Lillian Brown. Mr. Shornak was a United States Navy veteran having served his country during World War II. He was a life member of the VFW Post 637 in Hopewell. Mr. Shornak loved spending time with his family, camping, and telling jokes. He will be remembered by his family as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy W. Shornak; one son, David Shornak (Norma); three daughters, Nina Ouimette (Mark), Nancy Lang, and Penny Moran (Ricky); 10 grandchildren, Tori, Jody, John Norman, John, Michelle, Nicole, Emily, Sally, Chris, and Jenny; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Shornak; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018 in Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell, VA. Family and friends are invited to visit from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, 1201 Blackstone Ave., Hopewell, VA 23860 in memory of Mr. Shornak.
