John Spence of Prince George County died on Thursday, August 31, 2006 at his residence. He was a native of Logan, West Virginia and the son of the late Ezra and Nellie Spence. He was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church and a retired Civil Engineer at Fort Lee. He was active in the Boy Scouts and served as a Scoutmaster. Mr. Spence was a U.S. Army veteran who proudly served in World War II. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 57 years and loving father of his three children. He is survived by his wife, Ann Rodgers Spence; three children; Gary Michael Spence of Columbia, SC, Patricia Spence Haddon of Chesterfield and John Rodgers Spence of Prince George; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Wayne Haddon of Chesterfield, Julie Dorothy Spence and Daniel Marcus Spence both of Columbia, SC; two brothers, Ezra Spence of Utah and Clyde Spence of Oregon; special nephew, Mark Spence of Huntington, WV and several other nieces and nephews and close friends. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Monday, Sept. 4 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service and where funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, Sept. 5. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
