John Howard â??Budâ? Walters, 85, of Chester, died Monday, December 11, 2006 at his residence. Mr. Walters was born in Youngstown, Ohio and had been a long time resident of the Chester area. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Hopewell for more than 50 years. Mr. Walters was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Dorset Walters, who passed away in 1989. Even though many friends preceded him in death, he leaves many friends behind. Mr. Walters is survived by a daughter, Marcia Tench Kirtley of Salisbury, NC, a son, Truman Tench of New Orleans, LA, three grandchildren, Aaron Kirtley and his wife Michelle of Arlington, VA, Nathan Kirtley of Goldsboro, NC, Marcus Kirtley and his wife Jessica of Cary, NC, and one great-grandson, Ethan Kirtley of Arlington, VA. â??Budâ? was a devoted man of God, a loving father and grandfather, and a friend to all he met. His life was a living testimony of his faith in God and all who knew â??Budâ? loved him. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 13, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 11:00 AM in First United Methodist Church, Hopewell, VA with the Rev. O. H. Burton, Jr. pastor officiating.
