Master Sergeant John Boyce York, 88, died on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. He was born in Mecklenburg County to the late William Faggart and Virginia York. He is also preceded in death by his son, John Boyce York, Jr.; and sister, Laura Mae Chiarky.
John Boyce York was born on October 24, 1935, in Mecklenburg County, VA, the son of William Boyce Faggart and Lillie Virginia York. He graduated from John Marshall H.S. (Richmond, VA). Married Becky Akers, enlisted in the United States Air Force, and was assigned to a one-year term in Saudi Arabia. From that point, John and Becky formed a family of three children, while being based in Washington, DC, Bitburg, Germany, Minot, North Dakota, Fredericksburg, VA, Richmond, VA and Abilene, TX - a span of 21 years military service.
Upon retiring, John accomplished many roles, primarily commerce transactions - both independent and with corporations. While doing so, he and Becky supported and facilitated their mothers to the end of their lives. Additionally, John has managed the estate of his Aunt Ruby, at her request, for the past 22 years. His dedication to family and country is his legacy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Becky Dawn York; his brother, Ed Faggart (Mary); his aunt, Ruby Weinbrecht (97); his children, Dawn Suzanne York and David Lance York (Teresa); his daughter-in-law, Sheila; his grandchildren, Ashley York (J.P.), Austin York (Rachel), Michael York (Wendy), Taylor York, David York, Rachel York-Colangelo (Steve), Brooks York (Kylee), and Beck York (Jaime); his great-grandchildren, Brooks Jr., Kinsley, Eli, Eva, James, Nico, Stephen, and David; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 A.M., on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Chester United Methodist Church. Internment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
