Johnnie Vasquez, Jr., 75, of Prince George, VA, died March 26, 2023. Born September 16, 1947, in Houston, TX, he was the son of the late Johnnie Vasquez, Sr., and Mary Guadalupe Terres. He was a loving husband and father, who devoted himself to his family. He served 22 years in the military, 4 years in the Air Force and 18 years in the Army, between the years 1965-1987, and retired with the rank of E-8 First Sergeant. He received numerous medals and honors and served four overseas tours during this period, which included Guam, Okinawa, Vietnam, and Germany. After his retirement, Johnnie continued to serve as a subcontractor and was instrumental in the successful development, testing and fielding of the Army's largest logistics enterprise resource center. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Veteran of Foreign Wars associations. An avid reader and outdoorsman, he also enjoyed history, traditional Mexican cuisine along with other international dishes, and a variety of wines and other spirits, with a particular love of Glenfiddich. In addition to his parents, Mr. Vasquez was preceded in death by his brother, Roman Vasquez; and his niece, Terry Smith. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty Jean (Hazelton) Vasquez; son, John Hazelton Vasquez III (Emily Wilson); son, Samuel Hazelton Vasquez (Erna Lyn Vasquez); niece, Michelle Ellis; grandson, Jackson Wilson, as well as two future grandchildren. A visitation will be conducted from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at the same location at 4:00 PM, on Friday, March 31, 2023, with services provided by Father Thierry Hakpon of Crater Community Hospice. An interment will be at Amelia Veterans Cemetery at a future date yet to be determined.
