Belzile, Joseph Daniel, Colonel U.S. Army (retired). Doctor Belzile, 78, entered into eternal life March 9, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Beverly Bernier Belzile; his sons, Joseph, Jr., Michael and Mark; his daughters-in-law, Sharon, Maureen and Amy; his grandchildren, Annalise and Patrick. Colonel Belzile was a native of Van Buren, Maine. His undergraduate degree of Bachelor of Science was earned at the College of Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery was earned at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his PhD in General Pathology from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and served his residency at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C. Dr. Belzile was double-boarded in Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine. Colonel Belzile was then commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army and completed his dental internship at Tripler Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. His many assignments which spanned over 30 years included the United States Army Institute of Dental Research at Walter Reed Hospital, and Chief, Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine and Diagnostic Service at Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky, Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, and Irwin Army Hospital in Fort Riley, Kansas. His commands included tours as Commander, 92nd Medical Detachment, Hanau, Germany, and Commander, Dental Activity and Director of Dental Services, Fort Lee, Virginia. Colonel Belzile also had fellowships in the American College of Dentists and the American Academy of Oral Pathology. He was a member of the Order of Medical Merit, the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Oral Pathology and the American Academy of Oral Medicine. Colonel Belzile served as a consultant in Oral Medicine and Pathology for the Surgeon, USAREUR, Commander, 7th MEDCOM and many training programs in the U.S. Army. He has been recognized with various awards and citations by the American Cancer Society, the University of Pennsylvania Alumni and the American Dental Association. He has also been listed in several regional editions of â??Whoâ??s Who.â? He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Ann Catholic Parish in Colonial Heights, Virginia as well. The family will receive friends at the Chesterfield chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, March 14, 2009 from 3 to 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial and interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date and time.
