Joseph Berryman

Joseph Wells Berryman, 80, a resident of Chestnut Farm Circle, Surry, VA died Friday, June 19, 2009. Born on Jan. 13, 1929 in Surry, he was son of the late Joseph W. & Gladys Wells Berryman. A three-year veteran of the U. S. Air Force, he was a retired captain for Interstate Ocean & Transport Corp, a member of the Surry Baptist Church and an avid fisherman and traveler. He vacationed for many years in Costa Rica, a place he considered his second home. He is survived by a brother Ben R. Berryman, two nieces, Anne Elizabeth Berryman, Susan Berryman Landis and her husband Jon D. Landis, sister-in law, Sandra White Berryman and a grandniece, Amelia Anne Landis, all of Surry. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret S. Berryman. A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Old Brick Church Cemetery, Baconâ??s Castle by the Rev. Ray Hampton. The family will receive friends at the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield on Sunday evening from 6:00 â?? 8:00 PM.
