Joseph Wayne Buyalos, Sr., 60, of Prince George Ave., Hopewell, died Saturday, April 24, 2004 at his residence. He was born in Hopewell and was a resident of Newport News before moving to Hopewell. Mr. Buyalos was a graduate of Hopewell High and Old Dominion College. He was a long-distance runner and ran successfully in the Boston Marathon three times. Mr. Buyalos was retired from U.S. Civil Service at Ft.Eustis, Va. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Snell Buyalos of Hopewell, a daughter, Mary Catherine Buyalos Lajaunie and husband, Casey of Houston, Texas, four sons, Joseph Wayne Buyalos, Jr. and wife Ann of Frederick, MD, David Andrew Buyalos of Newport News, A. Glenn Buyalos of Roanoke and John Michael Buyalos of Norfolk, three grandchildren, Shelby, Kristen and Catherine, three sisters, Catherine B. Oliver of Richmond, Marion B. Walker of Hopewell and Margaret B. Bates of Portland, Or. Three brothers, James F Buyalos. Sr. of Dinwiddie county, Edward J. Buyalos of Chester and Michael A. Buyalos, Jr. of Enon. A Memorial service will be held Monday, May 3, 2004 at 11AM in St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Daniel Bond, pastor officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the parish hall. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, Va. 23060. The family is being served by the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
