Joe Coleman passed away at home on September 11, 2019. He was born and raised in Potosi, Missouri, the son of Bernard and Dollie Coleman. He was married for 39 years to Mary Allers Coleman. Joe is survived by his wife, Mary, daughter Shellie, son Matt, daughter-in-law Erin, granddaughters Alecea and Mackenzie, grandsons Lucas, Landon, and Carter, three sisters, Patricia Bourbon, Phyllis (Charles) Portell, and Brickey Coleman, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Dollie Coleman, a brother, Bernard Jr and sister Rachel. Joe served as a police officer in Ironton, Missouri, Burns Flat, Oklahoma, and Sullivan, Missouri. He was marshall for the Missouri Court of Appeals and recently retired after 18 years of service with the Virginia Workers Compensation Commission where he served as bailiff and lead insurance investigator. He was a member of the Eagles and Knights of Columbus in Missouri. In 2014, he joined the Dinwiddie Moose. He served as trustee, prelate, treasurer, governor, and most recently had taken the position of administrator. He also served two years as District 8 president. Joe’s passion was helping kids through donations to the Dinwiddie schools and especially doing ID kits through the Safe Surfin’ Foundation. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 22, 2019, 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Dinwiddie Moose Lodge, 7212 Boydton Plank Rd, Petersburg, VA.
