Joseph Igisaiar Concepcion, 69, of Hopewell, VA, died July 8, 2024. Born and raised in Chalan Kanoa, Saipan, he was the son of the late Concepcion I. Concepcion and Justo Dela Cruz Concepcion. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, JoAnn Concepcion; sons, Alfred Herrera and his wife, Danielle, and Justin Concepcion; daughter, Khristie Zobel and her husband, Shane; grandchildren, Ezio, Hiro, Shinji, and Arielle; siblings, Maryann C. Babauta, Patricia C. Mesa, Rosa C. Lecias, Vicente I. Concepcion, Kathryn C. Macaryer, Remy I. Concepcion, Manuel I. Concepcion, and Alice I. Concepcion. In addition to his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his brothers, Felix I. Concepcion and Ken Robert I. Concepcion.
He was an Army Logistics Sergeant, and at Fort Lee he was an instructor. After retiring from the Army, he became a manager at both Walmart and Food Lion. He enjoyed fishing, coin collecting, cooking, hosting/organizing special events, and barbecuing. But most of all he enjoyed being a grandpa to his grandchildren and had absolutely no hesitation bringing them up in conversation. Joseph was a dedicated family man and anyone who was brought around him was welcomed with unconditional respect. He led by example, not just during his military career, but in all aspects of his life.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Repast will follow at the home of his son, Alfred. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to JoAnn Concepcion.
