Joseph Donald Hughes, Sr., 84 of Hopewell, VA passed away, Wednesday, December 13, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Belva Hughes; a son, Joseph Hughes, Jr.; and a sister, Anne Lee Somera. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy Mae Hughes; children, Gail Freeman (Ty), Lori Webster (Michael), Jeff Crute, and James “Jimmy” Roberts; grandchildren, Michael Hughes and fiancée Michelle Edwards, Joshua Freeman, Shelby Trevino (Jorge), Steven Freeman, Cali Ecker (Allen), Emma Webster, Everett Webster, Rebekah Barnes (Mathew); great grandchildren, Jeremiah Hubbard, Dakota Harris; sister, Nancy Larry; and brother, Jimmy Hughes. Joe was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Hopewell. He was an Army veteran serving as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. Joe was a dedicated, loving husband and father; who opened his heart and his home to countless Foster Children over the years, and was loved and respected by all. The family will receive friends, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, December 16, 2017 at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home 820 W. Broadway, Hopewell, VA.
