Joseph William “Joe Buck” Cowling, age 79, of Aberdeen, NC, passed away peacefully at Autumn Care of Raeford on July 24, 2024, after suffering from Parkinson’s Disease for many years. Joe was born in Petersburg, VA, on September 23, 1944, to Jasper Wilson Cowling and Margaret Virginia Jolly. Joe married Beverly Cline July 12, 1975, in Hopewell, Virginia. He served in the US Navy, Marines, and Army Reserve. Joe flew CH-46 helicopters in Vietnam and a 182 Cessna in his civilian life. After his service to our country and completing his education, Joe became interested in the hospitality industry and became an owner and operator of many successful hotels up and down the east coast. Joe loved flying, golf, playing piano, music, and above all his family. He and his wife, Beverly were both animal advocates. He had one of the kindest souls and was beloved by so many. May he rest in peace.
Joe is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly Cline Cowling; and son, Geoffrey Branch (Wendy). Joe was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Amy Westbrooke; and brother, George Wilson.
Joe will be laid to rest in Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George, Virginia, on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.
