Joseph Clinton King Jr.

October 18, 1932 — November 4, 2021

Joseph Clinton “J.C.” King, Jr., retired owner of Allman’s BBQ and son of King’s Famous BBQ founder, passed away on November 4, 2021. J.C. went to his heavenly home to be with Grandma Davis, his Mama, his Pop and his youngest son, Heath Blake King, Sr.
J.C. was born on October 18, 1932. He was preceded in death by his father, J.C. King, Sr.; mother, Sarah Davis King; son, Heath Blake King, Sr.; and brothers, Howard F. King and John A. King.
J.C. is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Barbara J. King; children, Judy K. Crocker, Joseph C. King III (Joey), Cheryl A. King, Gloria K. Underwood (David), and chosen children, Bonnie and J.R. Long; grandchildren, Michael D. Crocker (Karrie), Megan A. Young (Ragan), W. Christopher Young (Jacque), Lindsay B. Underwood, Brenna L. Underwood, Heath Blake King, Jr. (Jordan), Connor King, Samantha King, Jackson King and chosen grandchildren, Brittany L. Moore (Chris) and Hunter Long; great-grandchildren, Ava C. Crocker, Estella J. Crocker, W. Cooper Young, Chloe A. Young and Blakeleigh King; sister, Jean A. Johnson; sisters-in-law, Augusta King, Carolyn King and many nieces and nephews.
J.C. started in the BBQ business with his father in 1946 at Kings Famous BBQ in Petersburg, Virginia. He served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1952-1960 in the Korean Conflict, receiving an Honorable Discharge having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. J. C. had many friends in life and devoted to him were Gloria F. Dance, Eleanor Eades, Laverne and Mary Cole, Susan Figg, Paul Williams, Tim Edwards, Melissa Sayre and best friend, Tom Edmunds. J.C. was a proud member of the Colonial Heights Moose Lodge Family Center #1783. He was recently honored by the Moose with the Valued Veteran Award for 2021.
Visitation will take place at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Chester, VA, on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Chester, VA, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in J.C.’s memory to the Virginia Special Olympics.
