Joseph Richard Parker, 79, of Hopewell, died on Memorial Day, May 29, 2006 in Hopewell Health Care Center. Mr. Parker was born in Petersburg, Virginia and served in the US Navy during WW II on the USS Wasp. He was a retired assessor with First Colonial Bank, a member of the Hopewell Rotary Club, former president and current member of Historic Hopewell Foundation Inc, a former member and chairman of John Randolph Hospital Authority, a former member of Southside Builders Association and an Alumni of William & Mary. Joe was a member of St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church in Hopewell, a former treasurer, vestryman and choir member. He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren L. and Lillian Hedgpeth Parker. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Rich Parker of Hopewell, a brother, Loren L. â??Snookyâ? Parker and wife, Helen, of Petersburg, step-children, Melville D. â??Nehlâ? Aldridge III & wife, Leslie, of Germantown, TN., Carolyn C â??CiCiâ? Aldridge of Richmond, Va., step-grandchildren, Kate and Denny Aldridge both of Germantown, TN and nephew John R. Parker & wife, Tish, of Adairsville, GA and their children, John R. (Jay) and Autumn (Ali). A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2006 at 11:00 am in St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church with Rev. Bruce Bevans, Rector, officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be held in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church, 505 Cedar Lane, Hopewell, Va. 23860.
