Joseph Rody Patterson Sr.

Joseph Rody Patterson, Sr., 86, a lifelong resident of McKenney, VA, died Thursday, March 22, 2018. He was the youngest of three children born to the late William Henry and Murt Heartwell Patterson. He was also preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Martha Jones Patterson, and a daughter, Nancy Lightfoot Patterson. A graduate of the University of Richmond, Joe taught history at Brunswick High School in the 1950’s. He and his brother, Billy, operated Wilmurt Motel and Restaurant in McKenney for many years, and he later owned and operated Patterson’s Specialties. He was a lifelong member of The Church of the Good Shepherd and served for over 30 years on the Dinwiddie County Water Authority. He is survived by a sister, Ruby Lee Patterson Weber; a brother, William Henry Patterson, Jr.; two sons, Joseph Rody Patterson, Jr. of Rockmart, GA. and Wayland Heartwell Patterson and wife, Glenda of Panama City, FL; two grandsons, Seth A. Patterson and Noah A. Patterson both of Panama City, FL, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 7800 Lew Jones Road, McKenney, VA 23872 followed by interment in the church cemetery.
