Joseph Henry Rogers, Jr., 83, of Carson, VA, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015. Mr. Rogers proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a longtime member of Fort Grove United Methodist Church in Stony Creek, and a member and past Chief of Carson Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Henry and Mildred Bobbitt Rogers, a grandson, James Rogers, and a brother, George Rogers. He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Shirley B. Rogers; daughter, Joan R. Kernodle and husband, Bill; son, Jeffrey N. Rogers and wife, Kathi; grandchildren, Shea Kernodle and wife, Jessica, Christopher Rogers, and David Rogers; great-grandson, Lawson Kernodle; sister, Virginia “Ginnie” Crosier and husband, Leo; loving caregiver, Mable Blackwell, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 19 at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with the Reverend Norma Jean Townsley officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
