Joseph Henry Smith IV, Jack, formerly of Petersburg, Virginia, Mount Pleasant, S.C. and recently, Emerald Isle, N.C. passed away suddenly at his home on May 6, 2022. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Henry Smith III and his sister, Martha Fulghum Smith. Jack is survived by his son, Joseph Henry Smith V of Ashville, N.C.; fiancée, Susan Elizabeth Scott; sister, Anne Katherine Smith; cousins, William Hale Nunnally, Jr., Thomas Fulghum Nunnally, William Beach Smith; and his former wife, Karen Whelan Smith.

Jack attended Admiral Farragut Academy Preparatory School in St. Petersburg, Florida, graduated from Bollingbrook School in Petersburg, and attended Richard Bland College. Jack started his banking career at First Federal Savings Bank of Virginia and was Vice President at CPM Federal Credit Union. Jack was devoted to his family, loved civil war history, music, cars, boating and the sea, dogs, technology, woodworking, tennis, golf, and most of all, laughter and fun.

A memorial service will be held at J.T. Morriss & Son - Petersburg Chapel on June 11 at 1 p.m. with burial to follow at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Virginia. Online condolences may be conveyed to the family at www.jtmorriss.com .
