Joyce Cohen Bates

Joyce Cohen Bates, 84, of Petersburg, VA, died Friday, January 12, 2018. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Dora Levenson Cohen. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Seymour Bates, and a daughter, Lori Ellen Bates. Joyce attended the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina. She was a lifelong member of Congregation Brith Achim and Hadassah Women’s Organization. A loving mother and grandmother, Joyce enjoyed reading and watching the Cooking Channel. She is survived by her children, Hal Colin Bates, Michael Stephen Bates and wife, Kelli, and Cam Bates Still and husband, Russell; grandchildren, Haley, Devan, Sydney, Emily, and Garrett, and a brother, Alvin Cohen and wife, Sara. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Brith Achim Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Congregation Brith Achim, P.O.
