Joyce Louise Atkinson Gallant, 67, of Hopewell, died Tuesday, September 28, 2004 in John Randolph Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born in Havre de Grace , MD and had been a resident of this area since 1968. Mrs. Gallant was the first Director of Volunteers at John Randolph Medical Center and was a retired administrative assistant with Cooper Claiborne Construction Co. She was the daughter of the late Harry B. and Emma King Atkinson. Surviving are her husband, Harry R. Gallant of Hopewell; two daughters, Deborah Gallant of Midlothian and Karen Gallant of Richmond; four grandchildren, Ashley Zdancewicz of Richmond, Chase Chewning with the U.S. Army in Monterey, CA, Brittany Chewning of Roanoke and Maxx Chewning of Midlothian; two great-nephews, Stephen and Phillip and a great-niece, Susie all of Arizona. Joyce was a great grandmother, a great mother, a great wife and a great friend. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 1, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with Chaplain Clifton E. Land, U.S. Army ret. Officiating.
