Joyce Adams Hypes

Joyce Adams Hypes, 86, went to be with the Lord on June 24, 2024. She was born to the late Willis and Viola Adams, in Petersburg, VA. She is also preceded by her loving husband, Calvin H. Hypes, Sr.; her sisters, Lois Jarratt and Janis Pahls; and her brothers, Randy Adams and Larry Adams.
Joyce was a dedicated and compassionate labor & delivery nurse for 40 years, working at Petersburg General Hospital and John Randolph Hospital. She also loved flowers and birds, especially enjoying bird-watching trips with her daughter. She was also a very active member of Mission Community Church. She served in Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, AWANA, the Clothes Cottage, and Community Dinner. The pastor of Mission Community Church will miss her immensely.
She is survived by her son, Calvin H. Hypes, Jr. (Becky); daughter, Sandra René Hypes; her grandson, Shaun W. Hypes (Tiffany); her great-grandchildren, Jase, Kinsley, and Brady; her sisters, Josephine A. Funk "Jo" and Barbara A. Berry (James); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A night of visitation will be held from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held the following day at 11 A.M., at the same location. The interment will follow, with a procession, to Sunset Memorial Park.
