Joyce Connelly Kirks, 84, of Dinwiddie County, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016. Born in Hopewell, VA, she was the daughter of the late Aubrey Byron and Carrie Mabel Tuttle Connelly. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Aubrey Byron Connelly, Jr., Ernest Jerrell Connelly, and Thomas Tuttle Connelly. Mrs. Kirks was a 1953 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic and State University and retired from Fort Lee after more than 30 years of civil service. A devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and tremendous cook, she took great pride in caring for her family and even helped her two sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and cherished her many friends in the Hugh Hodges Sunday School Class. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Frank O. Kirks; sons, Russell C. Kirks, Sr. and wife, Amy, and Alan B. Kirks and wife, Kim; daughter, Lori K. Stevens and husband, Glenn; grandchildren, Russ Kirks, Jr., Tyler G. Kirks, Jonathan B. Kirks, Sara Joyce Kirks, Michaela G. Stevens, Joshua T. Kirks, and Shelby F. Stevens, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Smiths Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with Dr. Andy Brockelman and Rev. Harry Byrd Jones officiating.
