Joyce Aquilla Rooks

Joyce Aquilla Rooks, 66, of S. Chesterfield, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lula Dixon; and brother, Marion Dixon. Joyce was an avid reader and busy with crafting. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She truly loved her husband, children, grandchildren and granddog, Smokey. She is survived by her husband, Calvin P. Rooks; two daughters, Merenda Gordon and husband, Ronald, and Christy Ruffin and husband, L.A. IV; step-daughter, Janeen Shumate; five grandchildren, Laura, Annah and Olivia Gordon, and Justin and Hunter Ruffin and fiancé, Jenna; three sisters, Becky Rowsey and husband, Russ, Sue Sims and Hattie Blevins and husband, Denver; brother, Jimmy Dixon and wife, Doris; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Friends and family are encouraged to wear purple to honor Joy. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., on Friday, January 13, 2017 at the funeral home.
