James Cobert Leonard, Jr., 74, of Chester passed away March 29, 2006. He was born in Sussex County, the son of the late James Cobert and Emily Bryant Leonard. Mr. Leonard served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and continued his government service at Bellwood, currently Defense Supply Center, where he retired after a total of almost forty years. He was a member of the American Legion for approximately 50 years, serving Post #137 of Richmond and Post #284 in Colonial Heights. Mr. Leonard was also preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Leonard Childress Vaughan. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Frances Lewis Leonard; two children, Rebecca L. Marable and husband Douglas W. of Chesterfield, and James C. Leonard, III of Chesapeake; one grandson, Adam N. Marable; and one sister Emily R. Leonard of Winter Park, FL. The family will receive friends tonight at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service from 6 to 8 PM. A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, March 31st at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg at 2 PM.
