Jr. Boston M. Lackey

The Reverend Doctor Boston McGee Lackey, Jr. died at his home on Tuesday, November 16, 2010. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Jane Dudley Lackey, and his parents The Reverend Boston McGee Lackey, Sr. and Janet Matthews Lackey of Lenior, N.C. He is survived by his son Boston McGee Lackey, III and wife Dixie, his daughter Jane Lackey Rives all of Petersburg, Va., and his brother Dr. Robert S. Lackey and wife Julia of Chapel Hill, N.C. and their four children and families; grandchildren Rawn Hyatt (Ewing), Bo Jenkins (Dawn), Dorset Brown (Jimmy), Tim Rives, Raleigh Rives, and ten great grandchildren. Mr. Lackey grew up in Lenior, N.C. and attended the University of North Carolina graduating in 1942; he then entered The Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va.; upon graduation, he moved to Waterbury, Conn. where he was chaplain at St. Johnâ??s Episcopal Church; afterwards, he moved to Shelby, N.C. and became rector of Episcopal Church of the Redeemer; in June, 1947 he was married and moved to Asheboro, N.C. where he was rector of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church; he moved to Petersburg, Va. in August, 1952 where he was rector of Christ & Grace Episcopal Church for 36 years until his retirement in 1988; following retirement, he was Priest-in-Charge at Merchants Hope Episcopal Church in Prince George, Va. until 1998. During his lifetime of ministry, he touched the lives of countless individuals. He will be truly missed. The funeral service will be held at Christ & Grace Episcopal Church, 1545 South Sycamore Street, Petersburg, Va. 23805 on Saturday November 20, 2010 at 1:00 pm. A reception in the Parish Fellowship Hall will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ & Grace Episcopal Church.
