Clarence Edward Curtis, Jr., age 82 of Chester, VA passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2010. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Vernelle Curtis; a daughter, Daphne Curtis; a daughter and son-in-law, Marian and William Perkinson; a son, Clarence E. Curtis, III (Trip); a granddaughter, Ashley Curtis; a sister, Duane Curtis Harrell; two step-granddaughters, Mandy and Mindy; five step-great grandchildren; and beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ida Curtis, of Chester. He graduated from Chester High School in 1944, attended Virginia Tech, served in the U.S. Navy, and graduated from the University of Richmond in 1974. He was a lifetime member and faithful servant of Chester United Methodist Church. He was charter president of the Chester Jaycees, former member of Chester Lions Club and Chester Rotary Club. He served on the Board of Zoning Appeals 11 years and Chesterfield County School Board for 17 years, serving as chairman for 7 years. For twenty-six years he operated Curtis Lumber Co. He was currently employed by Upton Lumber Co. The family will receive friends at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Friday, May 21, 2010 from 5 to 8 pm. A memorial service will follow Saturday, May 22, at 2 p.m. in the Chester Chapel. A private interment will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
