William Edwin Dalton, Jr., 88, a lifelong resident of Hopewell, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2012. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II as a teletype operator. Mr. Dalton worked for the U.S. Government as the Chief of Security on Fort Lee. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Hopewell, and a longtime member of the Fort Lee Credit Union Board of Directors. Mr. Dalton attended First Baptist Church in Richmond, VA, where he was a member of the Gold Band Sunday School Class. He was a retired Red Cross Volunteer and Chairman of the Red Cross Board, and volunteered with the Appomattox Regional Library. Mr. Dalton is preceded in death by his parents, William Edwin and Susie Dalton; and four sisters, Elizabeth Dalton, Mildred Whelan, Mary Frances Dunbar, and Helen Sue Rideout. He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Dalton; son, Bradford Dalton and his wife, Karen; grandchildren, Kasey, Tyler, Taylor, and Nicholas; several nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012 at Westhampton Memorial Park in Richmond, VA.
