Thomas G. Heartwell, Jr., 72, of Prince George, passed away Monday, July 11, 2011. Born in McKenney, he was the son of the late Thomas Goode and Mary Erma Beville Heartwell. Mr. Heartwell was a U. S. Army veteran and traveled the country playing baseball on the Army Allstar Team. He was an active member of the Petersburg Seventh Day Adventist Church where he served as Head Elder, Sabbath school teacher, Lay Pastor, and as a member of the church board. In addition to being an avid vegetable gardener, he was a lifelong basketball and baseball fan, and a devoted fan of the New York Yankees. Mr. Heartwell was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Rebarchick and a son, Rodney Clarke Heartwell. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Joyner Heartwell; son, David Russell Heartwell of Prince George; daughter, Nancy Carol Cook of Grottoes, VA; grandchildren, Robbie Cook of Waynesboro, Daniel Cook of Manasas, Kenneth Rebarchick and Jared Rebarchick both of Maryland; sister, Anne Roberts of McKenney; niece, Debora Dance of Ettrick. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14th at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Petersburg Seventh Day Adventist Church, 300 Poplar Drive, Petersburg, VA 23805. Interment will follow at Asbury Memorial Cemetery, McKenney, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Petersburg Seventh Day Adventist Church, 300 Poplar Drive, Petersburg, VA 23805.
