Richard Garland Brockwell, Jr., 81, a lifelong resident of Petersburg, passed away Monday, June 04, 2012. The son of the late Richard Garland and Mabel Ayers Brockwell, he was a graduate of the University of Virginia where he was rolls editor of the university yearbook â?? Corks & Curls, and a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. He was a U.S. Army veteran and longtime owner and operator of G. E. Matthews, Realtors Inc. in Petersburg. Mr. Brockwell was a member of Christ & Grace Episcopal Church and longtime Board member of Preservation Virginia. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of Leeâ??s Mill Pond in Prince George. He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Brockwell Elmore. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ann Brockwell; daughter, Laura Brockwell Eure and husband, Wes of Gloucester, VA; son, John Wesley Brockwell and wife, Teresa of Prince George; grandchildren, Ryan Wesley Eure, C. Logan Eure and Caitlin Rachel Brockwell. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 7th at Christ & Grace Episcopal Church with The Reverend David Teschner, Rector, officiating.
