Roy Lee Purdie, Jr., affectionately known as â??Pretty Boyâ?, 53, of Dewitt, VA. died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 in Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond, VA. Mr. Purdie was a U.S. Navy veteran and served on the Admirals Staff as a radio man during the Vietnam war. He was an electrician in the construction industry. Mr. Purdie was preceded in death by his father, Roy Lee Purdie, Sr.. He is survived by his wife, Melissa C. Purdie of Dewitt, VA, two sons, D. J. Purdie and his significant other Lynn of Colonial Heights, VA, Roy Lee â??Bubbaâ? Purdie, III and his wife Jeannie of Iowa, two daughters, Chynah Mancuso and Janna â??Beckyâ? Smith, both of Dewitt, VA, his mother Jean W. Hartley and step-dad Jim Hartley of Dinwiddie, VA, two brothers, Kenneth Purdie and his wife Linda of Prince George, VA, Ronald Purdie and his wife Becky of Dinwiddie, VA, a sister, Ann McNew and her significant other Allan of Dinwiddie, VA, brother-in-law, Burnell â??Budâ? W. Coates, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Chester, VA., a special friend, Peaney Childress and his significant other, Ann Moore of Hopewell, numerous nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends in places too numerous to mention. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 19, 1009 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. The family requests you bring notes, poems and etc. for Roy to carry with him. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. in New Creation in Christ Ministry, located in Farm Credit Mall, Dinwiddie County, VA. with Pastor Tammy Hayes of New Creation in Christ Ministry, assisted by Rev. Dr. Ivan Perkinson officiating. Interment will be at a later date in East Matoaca Cemetery. The family suggests very â??casual dressâ? for the visitation and funeral.
