Lucas â??LLâ? Lewis Meredith, Jr., of Dinwiddie, Virginia, died January 28, 2012. Born March 3, 1924, he was the son of the late Lucas Lewis Meredith, a Confederate veteran, and Mary Frances Gregory Meredith. Mr. Meredith was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Sierra. He graduated from Richmond Professional Institute. Mr. Meredith, a retired florist, owned and operated The Flower Mart in Petersburg from 1951 until 2005. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Petersburg, and later Rocky Run Methodist Church in Dewitt. He was a member of the Ruritan Club, American Legion, Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp A. P. Hill, the POGOâ??S (Petersburg Old Geezer Organization.), and a Plank Owner of U.S. Navy Memorial. LL was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Tin Can Sailors, and the Pamplin Historical Park. He was elected to the Board of Supervisors of Dinwiddie County (1964-1968) and served as chairman. L.L. Meredith was predeceased by his sister, Ida Lee Meredith Boze, of Dinwiddie. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Hattie Vivian Pittman Meredith; children, Janet Hope Wyche, and husband, Lewis, of Petersburg, Lucas Lewis Meredith, III, and wife, Lori, of Matoaca, and Nancy Gray Kelderhouse, and husband, Andy, of Roanoke; six grandchildren, James Gregory Wyche and Meredith Hope Wyche, Morgan Lee Meredith and Lucas Gray Meredith, Meredith Gray Kelderhouse, and Samuel Gray Kelderhouse; sister, Rae Elizabeth Hunsehe Thomas, of Petersburg. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 4th at Rocky Run Methodist Church in DeWitt. The family would like to sincerely thank Sharon Lewis of Dinwiddie and everyone at the Waverly Health and Rehabilitation Center for all of the care and concern he received these past months.
