Raymond Murrell Garrett, Sr., 85, of Hopewell, died Thursday, January 31, 2008 in the Colonial Heights Health Care Center. He was born in Appomattox, Virginia. Mr. Garrett served in the U. S. Army during WW 11, a D-Day survivor, a retired Division Manager for Sears and Roebuck Co., past President of Hopewell Lions Club, member of the Masons of Miami, a member of the Shrine Club, and a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Edward and Pearl Ferguson Garrett, his wife, Jean Prosise Garrett, three sisters and six brothers. Surviving are his daughters, Judith Garrett Buis and husband Honorable J. Stephen Buis of Richmond, Va., Annette Garrett Driggers and husband William of St. Louis, Missouri, Robin Garrett Henss and husband David of Chester, two sons, Raymond M. Garrett, Jr. of Miami, Fl. and N. Edward Garrett 11 and wife Valerie of Richmond, Va. , fourteen grandchildren, Kim, Ray, Eric, Ryan, Amanda, Rita, Mary Anne, Bill, Beth, Jonathan, Andrew, Mary Cameron, Trey and Emily, eight great-grandchildren, Ashley, Benjamin, Morgan, Mason, Berkley, Kate, Sydney and Alexis , two brothers, Braxton Garrett and wife Vivian and Randolph Garrett and wife Louise all of Cheaspeake, Va. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 3, 2008 in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home from 2-3:30 PM. A funeral service will be held Monday, February 4, 2008 at 11:00 AM in Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Rickman, pastor , officiating. Interment will be in Appomattox Cemetery.
